Ecosystems of the Waikato region: Indigenous and exotic, terrestrial and wetland

This publication describes 91 terrestrial and wetland ecosystems and their regional variants that have been identified by Waikato Regional Council as occurring in the Waikato region.

The ecosystem types are based on the national ecosystem classification system developed by the Department of Conservation (Singers & Rogers 2014) and are designed to complement other regional council terrestrial and wetland guides.

All indigenous and anthropogenic ecosystem types in this publication describe current distribution, including examples of sites within the Waikato region.
