Report: TR 2006/40
Author: Meg Graeme, Natural Solutions, Marine & Terrestrial Ecologists Ltd
Abstract
Estuarine vegetation was mapped in the Firth of Thames, from Tararu to Kaiaua. Using a combination of aerial photos and ground truthing, major community types were mapped: saltmarsh (rush / sedge community, saltmarsh ribbonwood community, sea meadow community); mangroves; seagrass and weeds. The report includes a description of estuarine vegetation observed in different areas, accompanied by a series of photos. It also includes comments on observed threats to estuarine vegetation, and other field notes of interest, as well as a series of recommendation for potential restoration / rehabilitation.
