Waikato Regional Council can help with your restoration project by providing advice and/or funding. We work with lots of different individuals, landowners, iwi entities and community groups to provide the help and support best suited for your project or property.

Our staff will be able to advise you on your next steps and whether we can assist with funding or supporting your project. If you are unsure whether we can help or not, please get in contact.

Catchment management advice

If you want to manage erosion or undertake soil conservation, plant beside your stream, or need river and catchment advice, contact your local catchment management officer.

Restoration advice and funding

If you want to restore, maintain or protect an area of bush, wetland, lake or coastal area contact a biodiversity officer for advice. For ecologically significant sites, we can also provide funding if certain criteria are met.

  • QEII Trust helps private landowners in New Zealand protect significant natural and cultural features on their land with open space covenants.
  • Nga Whenua Rahui Fund provides funding for protection of indigenous ecosystems on Māori land through a 25 year renewable kawenata.
  • District Councils provide protection of indigenous ecosystems on private land.
