Close alert

Natural hazards are atmospheric, earth or water-related processes or phenomena that may negatively impact human life, property or other parts of the environment.

Many of the impacts of natural hazard events are made worse by the location where humans have settled. Communities develop on plains, terraces and dune systems that have been created by natural hazards such as floods, earthquake faulting, wave action and changes in sea level.
