Status of application

The RMA provides a process for the call in of nationally significant resource consent applications by the Minister for the Environment. Waikato Regional Council sent a letter to the Minister on Friday 15 December 2023 asking for this application to be "called in".

The Minister for the Environment considered this application to be of national significance and referred the matter to a board of inquiry on 17 August 2024. 

On 6 November 2024 the public have another opportunity to lodge a submission on the application as part of the Board of Inquiry process for this application. All submissions that were previously received by the councils will be considered by the Board of Inquiry. However, members of the public now have the opportunity to lodge another submission on the applications.

About the proposal

Global Contracting Solutions Limited has lodged an application with the Waikato Regional Council for discharges to air and water and for cleanfill deposition required as part of a proposal to construct and operate a Waste to Energy plant to generate power through combustion of refuse derived fuel.

Waipā District Council (WDC) Application – Reference LU/0323/21

Global Contracting Solutions Limited has also lodged an application with the Waipā District Council to construct and operate a ‘Waste to Energy’ plant, which generates power through the combustion of refuse-derived fuel.

WRC Resource consent application and assessment of environmental effects (AEE)

The consent application:

On Tuesday, October 10 2023 the applicant requested a correction to page 7 of the APP143988 AEE document to remove a statement regarding the transfer of the Te Awamutu racecourse land ownership.
