Committee responsibilities

The Committee is responsible for:

a. Developing a Co-Governance Management Agreement (Joint Management Agreement) that gives effect to the provisions of the Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Raukawa, and Te Arawa River Iwi Waikato River Act 2010.

b. Carrying out duties and functions, and exercising powers under the Resource Management Act 1991, including:

i. Monitoring and enforcement activities (as specified under section 47).

ii. Preparation, review, change, or variation of a Resource Management Act planning document (under section 48).

iii. Duties, functions, or powers under Part 6 of the Resource Management Act 1991 in relation to applications for resource consents, under section 49.

c. In addition, the Co-Governance Management Agreement will provide for the inclusion of:

i. Processes relating to customary activities as stipulated in section 45 (as applicable to Territorial Authorities) of the Act.

ii. Any other duties, functions or powers the Trust and the Council agrees on as stipulated in section 54 of the Ngati Tūwharetoa, Raukawa, and Te Arawa River Iwi Waikato River Act 2010.

d. Final approval for a Joint Management Agreement will be the responsibility of the respective governance boards of the Trust and the Council, not the Committee.

Waikato Regional Council: Cr Robert Cookson, Cr Micheal Downard (Co-Chair), Cr Keith Holmes, Cr Tipa Mahuta.

Alternates: Cr Kataraina Hodge Waikato Regional Council, Tūwharetoa Māori Trust Board TBC.
