Committee responsibilities
Waikato Regional Council has a Joint Management Agreement (JMA) with Waikato-Tainui iwi.
Established through Treaty settlement legislation, the JMA sets out agreed processes that enable iwi participation in resource consent, environmental monitoring, enforcement, and policy and planning matters within the rohe (tribal boundaries) of Waikato-Tainui iwi.
The Committee is responsible for ensuring the Joint Management Agreement (JMA) between Waikato Raupatu River Trust and Waikato Regional Council is implemented in a way that satisfies both parties and upholds the partnership principles set out in the Waikato‑Tainui Raupatu Claims (Waikato River) Settlement Act 2010.
The Committee meets annually, or more frequently as agreed, and operates under its own Standing Orders. Decisions are made by consensus, reflecting the shared commitment of both organisations.
